Advanced
dry eye care

What To Expect

Treating dry eyes can be difficult and the same treatment doesn’t work for everyone. A consultation allows us to find the ideal treatment for you. Depending on symptoms, we may recommend Intense Pulsed light therapy, Radio Frequency therapy, or various at-home treatments.

what is radio frequency (rf) therapy for dry eyes?

Radio frequency therapy uses energy waves to heat the areas around the eyes. This heat from radio frequency therapy will manage bacteria, treat clogged glands so tears and oils can flow freely. Radio frequency therapy also has a cosmetic function by producing more collagen around the eyes to manage wrinkles.

The treatment process

  1. A thin layer of cooling gel is spread around the eyelid skin
  2. Your eye doctor will use the RF handheld to gently massage around your eye
  3. You will feel a gentle heat which melts the blocked oil glands
  4. Your doctor may massage them to express more oil

After treatment

There’s little to no aftercare required once your appointment finishes. Most patients experience no side effects besides a short-term skin reaction.

what is intense pulsed light (ipl) therapy for dry eyes?

Intense pulse light therapy is a treatment for dry eye and styes. Special light waves are used to reduce
inflammation that affects tear production. By treating the inflammation, the oil glands in your eye lids produce better lubrication. Intense pulse light therapy can also manage ocular rosacea and spider veins, which is
a common cause for dry eyes.

During the procedure, heat from the light waves melts any hard oils in your glands so oil can move freely and lubricate your eyes. For those with rosacea, it can also reduce facial redness.

THE TREATMENT PROCESS

  1. Protective shields are placed over your eyes
  2. A thin layer of cooling gel is spread around skin to keep your skin comfortable
  3. The IPL device delivers flashes of light to the area
  4. After the IPL light treatment is complete, your eye doctor may manually express oil from the glands

After treatment

Some patients notice immediate relief and benefit. However, treatment is often a series of visits in order to see a full benefit.

Blurry vision is common after therapy as it is a sign that your oil glands are producing better oils.
